The MIN93 quarry proposal will create a huge hole in the ground once they have extracted the 1 million tons of gravel, but how big will that hole be? What does 1 million tons of gravel actually look like.

Well, to put things into perspective, once the hole has been dug, you could easily park 6650 Double Decker Buses in the hole. That's almost the entire London Transport fleet.

Alternatively, if you wanted to fill the hole with people, you would need to find 1.64 million people. That's double the entire population of Norfolk county.


But that's nothing. If you wanted to replace the volume of gravel with the same volume of Pound Coins, you would need 3.35 BILLION of them. That's a simply staggering amount of money.


And of course, in order to shift 1 million tons of gravel, you will need a lot of lorries. It will take over 46000 lorry loads to shift all that gravel away from the site. So that's almost 100,000 individual lorry trips. That's a lot of traffic by anyone's standards.
