SAVE PENTNEY ACTION GROUP
MINUTES OF MEETING HELD AT FALGATE FARM
ON 2nd JUNE 2008 at 7pm
Present: Cliff Smalley, Marian Storey, Norman Sharp, Frances Bligh, Shirley MacKinnon
(standing in for Sam Thorn) and Sam Knox (publicity officer).
Apologies: Kevin Stonebanks and Sam Thorn.
Village Forum
It was agreed to hold this on Saturday 12th July, 1 – 4pm at the Village
Hall.
All parishioners will be invited via the Nar Valley News and posters will be put
up around the village. Sam has compiled a comprehensive list of those to be invited
by letter. He will email the letter to each member for agreement before sending.
It was suggested we produce an information sheet for people to take home, including
an outline of the website as not everyone has access to computers. Norman proposed
the next meeting be solely to discuss the Village Forum. This was agreed.
Waterworks
Cliff has made enquiries and found that the usual method of powering pumps is
by electricity connected to diesel engines for backup. Norman said that pumping
and water levels are normally very controlled. Frances produced maps showing land
levels and drainage dykes. She had made enquiries and it would cost about £250.000
to move the sewage treatment plant. The Borough Council passed the plant to Anglia
Water but there is a grey area as to who owns the pipe across the fields.
Nar Valley Fisheries have concerns regarding water and will send a report to Sam.
Cliff and Norman said backfilling is too expensive, can cost more than the initial
dig out therefore the area will be left as11 acres of lake. It was agreed to get
the MOD involved, as their concerns will be bird strikes to aircraft. Sam and
Shirley both have contacts within the RAF so will pursue this.
English Heritage
Cliff has contacted the case officer who told him he has written to NCC to say
he is aware of the situation. If planning is applied for then he has lots to say.
Wildlife
Our wildlife expert, who has a home in the village, will write a report to NCC
and will meet with Cliff.
Any Other Business
Shirley said that health issues are mainly stress related and respiratory illnesses.
Sam said he has detected signs of opposition to action groups on the website.
Date of next meeting – to be arranged.
Meeting closed at 9.35pm.
