Pentney village has a rich and varied community. Some are young,
some are old. Some are working, others are retired. Some have lived here all
their lives, while others have moved into the area and made it their home.
Within such a varied collection of people, you're guaranteed to find a wide
range of opinions on every matter under the sun. One thing that all Pentney
residents have an opinion about is the new proposed quarry. Most are against
it.
Below are some genuine comments concerns and statements from real Pentney residents.
Actor,
TV Personality and local resident, Stephen Fry is appalled by the proposal
and offered the following words of support...
"I am sorry that absence in America at the moment prevents me from being in Norfolk, but please take this as proof of my support for what you are doing. One small church lane that connects a small village to one of the most used and dangerous roads in England -- all it needs now is the presence of huge aggregate trucks, leaving their sludge, litter and mud, adding their clank noise and dangerous presence. It is as if Pentney is being encircled by aliens and it is surely time to stop and leave poor Pentney be."
The
Revd. Canon Stuart R Nairn shared with us his worries about how the quarry
will affect the local residents and his church...
"I'm deeply concerned about the proposed quarry work to the north of Pentney village, not least it's effects on the residents who will be in close proximity to the proposal as outlined on the paperwork. As the rector of the parish, I'm deeply concerned about the effect it will have upon the parish church of Mary Magdelene which faces the possibility of having to close, or indeed the possibility that the workings might cause the building to collapse."
Member
of Parliament for Norfolk North West and Shadow Minister for Justice, Henry
Bellingham is eager to reassure concerned residents...
"I am completely opposed to any form of industrial quarrying within your parish. I feel it would be quite wrong and totally unacceptable for any of these intrusive quarrying projects to ever get off the ground. You and the Pentney campaign have my 100% support in respect of MIN 93"
Mary,
a Pentney resident from Church Close is particularly concerned about the
impact this proposed quarry would have on her quality of life...
"I came to live in Pentney to enjoy the peace and quiet of village life. I've lived here for 14 years, but this quarry will destroy that dream if it's allowed to go ahead."
Janet,
a Pentney resident from Church Close expressed concerns over how the quarry
proposal will affect disabled residents...
"Among other things, I suffer from a stress related disability and the thought of possibly having a huge quarry on my back doorstep, along with the worry of how it may affect my other conditions including asthma, is distressing in the extreme. I know the decision process is a long drawn out one, but that just worries me more, as it's prolonging the stress I'm feeling, and the longer I'm under stress, the worse my condition gets and the more I suffer."
Adrian,
a Pentney resident from Church Close is angered by the way greed is once
again spoiling things for the silent majority...
"It's all about money, and not about people who vote. There are greedy people and ordinary people, and this village is now suffering along with several others in the area from greedy people. It takes all sorts to make a life. All walks of life, but sometimes the greedy people have to be stopped."
This site is constantly evolving and growing, so if you're out and about in the village, keep your eyes peeled for an Irishman riding a bike, and carrying a camera. I may stop and ask you for your thoughts and comments for the site.
